An Attempt to Upgrade to 1.1.3

UPDATE: If your iPhone has bootloader 3.9, and you have upgraded to 1.1.3 by mistake and you would like to downgrade it back to previous version, please read How to downgrade 1.1.3 (for bootloader 3.9).

I have managed to upgrade my 1.1.2 (upgraded from 1.0.2) to 1.1.3 and see what would happen. The upgrading process is flawless, and after it’s done, the firmware is 1.1.3, the modem is 04.03.13_G, it directly enters the SpringBoard, no activation checking! Before 1.1.3, any upgrade immediately locks up the iPhone, but surprisingly enough, the upgrading to 1.1.3 will let you enter the SpringBoard directly, I can use the 1.1.3’s new features like re-arrange icons, etc, of course no phone related features.

Well, all these are gone when I reboot the iPhone, after its reboot, the infamous ‘connect to itunes’ screen appears and I am stuck at the activation screen. Then I decided to downgrade it. The iTunes doesn’t allow me to downgrade directly (unknown error 1), so I took the following steps to downgrade:

1. Use iPHUC to put the iPhone into DFU mode first:

enterrecovery
filecopytophone WTF.s5l8900xall.RELEASE.dfu
cmd go

NOTE: the WTF.s5l8900xall.RELEASE.dfu file can be extracted from the firmware

2. When the iPhone has entered the DFU mode, use iTunes to selectively restore (shift-Restore) the firmware 1.1.2, after it’s done, an expected error 1015 appeared.

3. Selectively restore the firmware 1.1.1, when it’s done, an expected error 1015 appeared.

4. Since I prefer 1.0.2, so I did another extra step to selectively downgrade it to 1.0.2, at the end of restoration, the expected error 1013 appeared.

NOTE: all the above 101x errors indicate that the modem can not be downgraded which is an expected result, hence can be safely ignored.

Now I have a hybrid iPhone with 1.0.2 firmware and 04.03.13_G modem, the activation is not a problem. Then I put into a SilverCard (which was working perfectly in 1.1.2), guess what? It des NOT work. The iPhone always reports Incorrect SIM. Looks like Apple has finally fixed the ICCID exploit found in the previous versions (or maybe the firmware version needs to be 1.1.3).

What can I do now? Well, the best bet is to wait for the new 04.03.13_G secpack, and downgrade the modem to early versions, then unlock it.

CONCLUSION: Do NOT upgrade to 1.1.3 at the moment.

UPDATE: With the latest 04.03.13_G secpack, I have successfully downgraded my upgraded 1.1.3 to 1.0.2 with modem downgraded from 04.03.13_G to 03.14.08_G, everything’s back to normal. Cool!

UPDATE: Firmware downgradable doesn’t mean baseband is software unlockable. Yes, you can downgrade the OTB 1.1.2 firmware back to earlier versions, but as of the date this article is written, there’s NO software unlock for OTB 1.1.2 because there’s NO WAY to flash an unsigned baseband to iPhone due to the bootloader 4.6, the exploit utilized in the bootloader 3.9 has been fixed. The hardware method (downgrading bootloader itself) is another story.

    Hi,

I guess need some hand on helping me out now if possible. Previously I had my hacked Iphone active with 1.0.2 with 03.14.08_G modem firmware. I had accidentaly upgraded my firmware to 1.1.3 with modem 04.03.13_G. It displays now “Invalid Sim” as you had face in your case.

Is it possible for me to downgrade back to older firmware i.e 1.02 which I had earlier along with modem firmware downgraded as well.

As per Your UPDATE, It looks like you had done this successfully. Kindly help me out on instructions to make this happen. I will appriciate your effort.

    Thanks

Can someone confirm that this will fix the 0049 IMEI problem? Or maybe even the other problems everyones been having like NO WIFI, NO SERVICE and INVALID SIM? If so, could someone please, provide a detailed tutorial on how it may be done? Thanks in advanced!!!

This has nothing to do with IMEI 0049 issue which exists in seczone, you need to revirginize your seczone to fix the IMEI 0049 issue, try search.

I have revirgined numerous times but have not fixed the problem. I was hoping upgrading to this firmware would fix the seczone like other people stated in other forums. They claim they have fixed their iphone by doing a method similar to this one. You’re saying this will not fix any of the problems I mentioned? Any suggestions on how I might go about doing so?

Well, although some people reported that upgrading to 1.1.3 fixed their IMEI 0049 issues, other people had negative reports, so it was not confirmed as a turn-key solution. When I said ‘it has nothing to do with IMEI 0049 issue’, I really meant the modem downgrading process, not the firmware upgrading. I have no idea if upgrading to 1.1.3 could fix the IMEI 0049 issue anyway.

PLEASE HELP!!! I had a 1.11 unlocked iphone and used the 1.1.3 jailbreak update. I didn’t like it so tried to downgrade and (long story short) ended up accidently restoring it to 1.1.3 in itunes. Now I am stuck at the 1.1.3 Activation Screen and cant downgrade. Help me please!

    Hey there,

It appears that I have the same problem as you. I initially had an OTB 1.1.1 iPhone which I successfully unlocked and was running apps without a problem for a couple months. I just recently accidently updated and after many posts, and questions, I have been able to downgrade only to 1.0.2 BUT with Modem firmware 04.03.13_G, so like you mentioned, I seem to have a hybrid phone running 1.0.2 with 04.03.13_G modem firmware. I saw your page on how to downgrade it but I am not 100% familiar with how I go about doing it exactly. Would you by any chance be able to explain in a little further detail so I can downgrade my iphone modem firmware so i can then upgrade to 1.1.1 again and re-unlock my phone.

    Thanks A lot

    Grant

James, please read my another article HERE.

Grant Glaser, I’m not sure which part of the instructions that is not clear, can you be more specific?

Ok, what I have right now is an iphone that was accidently upgraded to 1.1.3. So I have used itunes to restore it to
1.0.2. The restore worked, BUT the Modem firmware is still 04.03.13_G.

I want to use your instructions from Baseband “04.03.13_G Secpack” in order to downgrade my modem firmware. Im hoping this will allow me to then upgrade back to 1.1.1 and re-unlock my phone? I just need a little help on how to do it.

    Thanks

Grant Glaser, I see, please check the beginning of this article, I’ve added a link to the downgrade instructions in the UPDATE.

BTW, When I restored in iTunes I of course got the 1013 error, but I used iNdependence to get the phone out of DFU. Do I need to Jailbreak and install SSH, THEN do the steps in your other blog?

    thanks

How do I enter these comands, or how do I get/ install the console?

Login to iPhone (or use MobileTerminal), and enter the following commands in console:

    cd /reflash
    chmod 755 *
    launchctl remove com.apple.CommCenter
    ./ieraser
    ./bbupdater -f *fls -e *eep
    ./bbupdater -v (you should see version 03.14.08_G)
    launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist

Use Installer to install BSD Subsystem and Term-vt100 (aka MobileTerminal), you need them. the commands are entered in Term-vt100, one by one. If you can’t install Installer for some reason, maybe you can try iBrickr.

I have an iphone that was accidently upgraded to 1.1.3 using itunes, I managed to downgrade it back to 1.0.2, but the modem firmware is still 04.03.13_G. I jailbreakon the 1.0.2 and now I want to use 04.03.13_G secpack to downgrade my modem firmware back to 04.14.13_G so I can make some calls.

Now here is a problem, when I go to Installer (aka v2.63) to install BSD Subsystem the installer wants me to update it to version 3.0b8, and when I tried to update it I got this error: “Package file size mismatch!”

I am really stuck, and I dont now what to do ??????!!!!

Any help that anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!
