Roll back some days, a nice guy Zie sent me a mail, through this mail I get to know some people standing behind the iPhone unlock. These people have been working hard to bring the world the latest hack to make your iPhone a real phone, not just an expensive iTouch or paperweight.
What Have These People Done ?
Well, basically they have done so many great jobs to help us jailbreak, activate, and unlock the iPhone. Thousands of people are using their hard working result everyday, without even knowing whom they are, and the credits are often given to the wrong guys. For example, the latest jailbreak/activation method uses a ramdisk exploit discovered by them, although almost everyone thought it’s Zibri’s work, it’s definitely not, Zibri just assembles the parts and makes an application. It’s just like iPhone is assembled here in China, but do you think it’s designed and deveoped here ?
Who Are They?
These people come from a team, I’m sure you’ve heard about this team, iPhone Dev Team. Yeah, it’s still alive and active, just running in a slightly different way (IMHO). I just wanna say Hi to them and give credits to them as they deserve it. The articles on this site and other iPhone sites out there are all or partially based on their work. Without their work, the current progress on iPhone unlock may not be possible.

thanks for the clarification - I am following the scene for 6 months, and I fully agree - there are many “black sheeps” reusing or even abusing the work the dev-teams did.
Let me give a a deep bow and my regards for their work! It was time that someone pointed this out. Hackint0sh, which I consider the HQ of the team + the scene is too overflooded. And what our “friend” did, well, I personally do not even think it is worth a comment from me - but it seems ppl out there need to understand what is happening here.
I hope the devs and the associated people do not turn away, keeping their stuff for themselves only. I have seen this happen in the DVB-scene here in Germany (paytv hacking) and it was a pitty. A lot of disappointment was included there, and I fear people like GEOHOT or the members of the dev-team get sick of the “noobs” and keep their work for them.
Of course it is also about “fame”, and that your hacking work is recognized - but this is the point where the “thieves” push the real brains into the underground… why should GEOHOT ever release his “GEO_MOD BOOTLOADER 4.6″ ? He has it, and that’s fine for him. If he would release it sooner than he can spell his mothers maiden name someone will have ripped it and re-released it to the crowd.
However, I am drifting away. Thanks George for pointing out what many of the really interested freaks think those days.

Ahh sourgrape! If only your imagining was true. If only Zibri was as genious as Zibri believes Zibri is. Then the world would bow to Zibri, Zibri would be complete, and all would attain enlightenment. So I will give you a riddle wrapped in an enigma. Mr. Zibri, we know that you know exactly what you are doing. You model your life after Mr. Jobs himself, but you are not the frontman for the same type of discovery he was.
My words of advice: be mindful of the sell cell you place yourself in. I’d considered stepping into it myself, but then took a step back and saw the rest of the stage already set by the cellular unlocking industry. It’s certainly not theatre which I can appreciate, but perhaps it suits your tastes.
