A Seczone Filled With 0xFF

I’ve been sort of busy doing some Python stuffs so this blog has not been updated for days, besides I’m lazy sometimes :) Okay, this is a story about what has happened to my 1st-gen iPhone, the story may prevent you from doing stupid things like me :)

Last week, I was trying the firmware 2.0 on my 1st-gen iPhone (bootloader 3.9, firmware 1.1.4), after some successful “normal” operations, I decided to try some “abnormal” situations, so I messed my iPhone in the following manner:

Restore to 2.0
Restore to 1.1.4
Downgrade baseband
Erase baseband
Activate
Unlock the AnySim way
Unlock the IPSF way

The above operations were taken multiple times and might not be in the displayed order (I couldn’t recall the exact steps I took), I used the following tools during the above operations:

iLiberty+
PwnageTool
BootNeuter
KiPhone (I know what it is :)
iTunes 7.5
iTunes 7.7
iUnlock
norz
bbupdater
etc.

After several erasures, restores, upgrades, downgrades, pownages, as well as other mindless operations, my phone finally got to such a condition:

The seczone was filled with 0xFF

So the seczone was erased, I tried to restore it using my backup (yes, I have my original seczone backup), but I wasn’t lucky this time, after several attempts using iUnlock, the seczone was still filled with 0xFF, I’ve dumped it several times using norz, all the same results. To test if it’s still a “phone”, I unlocked it using BootNeuter and made some calls, it worked like a charm :)

Now I have a nice iPhone with no bluetooth, no wifi. The annoying thing is I have no idea how to fix it even though I have my original seczone in hand.

Have you tried to use PC/Win to restore to 1.1.4 using iTunes 7.5 in DFU mode?

    老兄果然出手不凡亚, 搞出了一块能打电话的砖头阿.

    上次那台1011砖头, 我前些天刚让人去文三路上换了块通讯板.

Is your problem the same as the 1011 error that results from a screwed-up baseband? No wifi, no bluetooth, no imei, no ccid, no sound, ‘repair needed’ message. I mean really screwed-up, such that nothing works or seems to be able to reach that far down to fix. All attempts at erasing/fixing it end in frozen screens. The tell-tale sign seems to be ‘invalid calibration data in device tree’. This is the state of my iPhone. You wrote that you could make calls though. How is that possible? Do you know of any way to fix the invalid calibration issue? Thanks very much!

Last nite, i was end up with 1012, unable to push baseband in itunes 7.5 and 7.7, with bbupdater also could not. Use the bootneuter, it just hang on “detemining current setings”. Thought i messed with the baseband processor. Around midnite, i played back with kiphone and downgrade a baseband … somehow … simsalabim it can pushback in a baseband, whilst i do not understand why ??!??

I have the same problem as you George but I had this when I first upgraded to 2.0 from 1.1.4. I downgraded (and then upgraded) in the hopes of fixing this but this did not help. I have been reading up on this in the hope of finding something but to no avail. It seems that there are many who after upgrading to 2.0 and/or 2.0.1 have the same issue. Just type in Google “no wifi iphone 2.0″ and you will see. The end result is them getting a replacement phone.
